“This place is, and always has been called Sodom”.  According to the history of the area, it was supposed that someone called it that at first for mischief.  “The residents called it by the bigger name but it don’t stick worth a straw”.    The first home was built there in 1845 by George Black for shoemaker’s shop, followed by a general store, blacksmith and a hotel.

In 1880 the township’s first medical practitioner started up a practice at Sodom.  As well as starting his practice, he started a skating rink in 1884.

Sodom also boasted the only female medical doctor.  There was a creamery and chopping mill, a service station and small store.  In 1911, the 1st country road was built of crushed stone.  The crusher being set up in the old creamery foundation.
