Today we can look back in wonder at what it took for children in the early days to get an education, walking over four miles over snow filled roads and across country to get to school. The schools in those days were anything but well-equipped as far as comfort was concerned – heated by a stove in the centre of the room, which was allowed to go out at the end of the school day, and usually re-lit by an older student in the morning an hour before school started. In the really cold weather the students had to wear their mitts until noon. They couldn’t use their ink bottles because the bottles would freeze and break.
Now, students are lucky enough to receive education in modern buildings and be bussed or driven by their parents to attend school.
Hitherfield Preparatory School
Hitherfield Preparatory School is a private co-educational school located in the village of Campbellville, Ontario, just north of Milton. The school teaches from Junior Kindergarten to grade eight. The school is a member of the Ontario Federation of Independent Schools (OFIS).
Hitherfield was founded in September 1991, and sits on 82 acres of countryside property. The original building dated back 1867, but significant expansion has been added over the years. A full-sized gymnasium and a multi-purpose atrium were added recently.

Brookville Public School
Brookville Public School is a public school in the Halton District School Board. It is located at 11325 Guelph Line in Campbellville. The school offers curriculum for Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8.
Brookville Public School’s motto is: “Work Hard, Be Nice, Make a Difference”. Being environmentally friendly is of great importance to the school. As part of making a difference, Brookville Public School has initiated a school wide project called “Green Makeover”, to created an outdoor natural classroom to plant native plant species. It is a recipient of Ontario EcoSchools Gold Certified 2008.
